My client was a medium-sized but largely UK-based international charity serving people in multiple countries and languages. The team had plenty of ideas for a second mobile + web platform and lots of expertise in design and media. But their in-house IT expertise was stretched way too thin to handle the increased complexity of a new and gamified application with a number of critical security constraints. This meant they had no specification, architecture or a reliable way to estimate the build,
So, in collaboration with a 3rd party agency, I was called in to work with stakeholders around the world and determine what they actually needed. After this iterative process, we built a prototype and I wrote a detailed specification development agencies could quote, and the winning agency can build from.
The work included:
- Stakeholder interviews with technical and non-technical staff across Travel As One. These conversations clarified the real requirements.
- Oversight of a working prototype so the team could see the proposed product to be sure they were getting what they wanted. And to help quoting agencies see more clearly what they would build.
- A detailed written specification. I used AI tools where they saved time, while checking and shaping the content myself.
The engagement stopped before the full build. Travel As One now has a specification it can use to commission and get bounded quotes for the work. It also has a clearer picture of the scope, and commitments involved.
